For the third consecutive week thousands of young people have taken to the streets all over Catalonia. The strike called by the Sindicat d’Estudiants on October 30 and 31 has been a resounding success: empty classrooms in high schools, which have supported the strike by over 85%, and the same in dozens of faculties. In the streets of Barcelona and the rest of the Catalan capitals, thousands of throats have returned to shout the slogans that the movement has popularized in recent weeks: Ni un pas enrere and Els carrers serán sempre nostres!

In contrast to this, the image that the mainstream media, the Interior Minister Grande-Marlaska and the government have conveyed about what happened in Catalonia these days has been of an indescribable manipulation: burned containers, hooded, barricades and fire everywhere has been what has dominated the news and newspapers 24 hours a day. Information about alleged demonstrators carrying chainsaws or attacking the police by throwing washing machines (!!!) have replaced the images of the massive and peaceful mobilizations that millions of us have taken part in.

He also announced a demonstration in Barcelona and warned that, in the month remaining until the strike, there will be previous actions to “encourage socialization” and follow-up among high schools and universities.

Daviu also criticized that the laws, currently in the parliamentary process, “accelerate the transformation of education into a business and turn a fundamental right into a good at the service of the market”.

He has also encouraged the Catalan parties represented in Congress to stop the initiatives. “Now it is your turn. Positioning yourselves against the ‘Castells law’ is a minimum and we expect you to be up to the task,” he said.

Daviu has also criticized the Coexistence law. “It is a direct attempt to disarticulate the student movement and criminalize all our protest mechanisms through fear of reprisals,” he emphasized.
