On one side of the Plaza Mayor, where Atocha street begins, is this charming little square where we always stop at least to take a quick look at the stores of its arcades, or to see what it says on the banners of the demonstrations, so common, since here (in the Palace of Santa Cruz, former Prison of the Court, where the famous bandit Luis Candelas was imprisoned) is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Perfect to start or end a route through the center, we like to feel in the Madrid of the Austrias, that medieval layout of the city where it all began. We also like to sit for a moment at the Orpheus Fountain, although today we can only see a reproduction of the original, from the seventeenth century.
