The restaurant La Cocina de San Antón gets its name from its location: inside the New San Antón Market, in the heart of Chueca. It occupies the entire third floor of this new market (the old San Antón Market, completely renovated and now with an avant-garde image and some of the most chic stalls), in a large space of approximately 400m2.unless you are a weird guy, I have no doubt that what you will like most about this restaurant is its terrace-lounge with a panoramic view over the rooftops of Chueca that will be this summer 2011 one of the biggest attractions of this neighborhood.

If there’s one thing we like about Madrid, it’s the sunny days in the middle of winter. The terrace of the Mercado de San Antón is a great option to enjoy the winter phototherapy while having a cocktail in the lounge area or tasting the market cuisine of its restaurant.you can smoke, of course, and that makes it a fairly busy area, although during the week it is a quiet place to have a snack before eating; generally much more than the stalls, where it is sometimes difficult to get a stool.the rehabilitation of the building is dubious, especially on the outside, but the terrace has no flaws.

The traveler madrid

On the top floor of the Mercado de San Antón, that is, one floor above the tapas area, we have this very cool and atmospheric restaurant that also has a smoking area where it is not cold and it is very comfortable.

That said, if you have to organize a dinner with several friends, people do not want to spend more than 30 €, and you want an atmospheric place, La Cocina de San Antón is a good choice. However, I would like to tell you that yesterday I was at Casa Mono, also very cool and atmospheric, and the food is much better than here.

In the heart of Chueca, this market is full of surprises, worth a visit. The market has three floors. The first floor is dedicated to the sale of perishable products and it is possible to buy delicatessen, quality hamburgers or various fruits and vegetables.

The second floor is composed of a tavern-vinotheque and ten kitchen counters / take-away stands where Greek specialties, Japanese food, seafood, pastries, juices and milk shakes can be tasted and taken away. On this floor there is also the Trapezio room, where various cultural projects are developed.

The San Antón market is also a new model of sustainable market where the central clearinghouse serves as a huge photovoltaic energy collector and where the melted basalt of the original floor has been recovered.    It also has a collection system that reduces the volume of organic waste by 80%. The market has a free Wifi connection on all floors. For more information on all municipal markets, go to Mercados de Madrid.
