The Casa de América Consortium was founded in 1990, on the occasion of the preparations for the celebration of the V Centenary. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council were constituted as founding members of the Institution.
Casa de América is also very active in social networks and the digital world. Through its website all its contents are disseminated and all the Consortium’s activities are announced. In addition, it publishes interviews and reports related to the events organized and in which the different people who participate in them appear. It also has specific sections dedicated to promoting new artists, who can send and show their work virtually.
The Casa de América was born as one of the projects for the commemoration of the Fifth Centenary of the Encounter of Two Worlds and was inaugurated in 1992 on the occasion of the European cultural capital of Madrid and coinciding with the celebration of the II Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, by the King and the leaders attending the Summit.

After the success of the 2007 edition, VivAmerica made the leap to the other side of the Atlantic and was held simultaneously in Madrid, Bogota and Santa Cruz de Tenerife between the 6th and 12th of October. A packed week of events that brought together in the three cities outstanding personalities from the world of culture and thought from all over Latin America, and served as a bridge between Europe and America.

A different kind of cinema, with a non-traditional narrative and a pioneer in cinematographic language comes to Casa de América (Plaza de la Cibeles s/n). The venue organizes the film series “Rupturas” in which a film will be screened at 8 p.m. every Wednesday until November 25.
General admission costs 4 euros and there are discounts, 3 euros for the over 65s, the youth card, Telefónica and Iberia employees and Iberia Plus and Iberia Singular cardholders, 2.50 euros for DMM card users and 1 euro for the unemployed.
