Hamlet de william shakespeare obra completa

horatio

As in other tragedies of the author, the protagonist cannot avoid a catastrophic destiny despite all his efforts to avoid it. Likewise, this play explores such universal themes as life and death, reason and its weakness, and madness.

Later, Prince Hamlet, son of the deceased king, learns what happened thanks to his friend Horatio. Then, he decides to stay awake all night to witness the appearance of his father.

Parallel to this event, Laertes, Polonius’ son, talks to his sister Ophelia, who is completely in love with Prince Hamlet, and asks her to forget him. Then, the young woman promises to abide by his advice.

Finally, when night comes, Hamlet manages to see the ghost of his father, who confesses that Claudius, his brother, murdered him in his sleep. The king then makes his son promise to avenge his death.

On the other hand, Ophelia confesses to her father that Hamlet is mad. Afterwards, Polonius decides to speak to the kings to alert them to the prince’s behavior and confesses that his madness may be due to his love for his daughter.

hamlet by william shakespeare

This play revolves around the tribulations of Hamlet, whose father, the king of Denmark, has died. After his ghost reveals to him that he has been murdered by Claudius, his brother and current king (who has also married Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude), he urges him to take revenge.

At the same time, in view of the prince’s erratic and melancholic attitude, the kings decide to send him to England. Before Hamlet mistakenly murders Polonius, Chamberlain of the kingdom and father of Ophelia, with whom he is in love. During the voyage, the ship is attacked by pirates and Hamlet manages to return to Elsinore, the Danish royal castle.

Claudius convinces Laertes, Polonius’ son and Ophelia’s brother, that he must avenge his father’s death. Ophelia, who has gone mad, commits suicide by drowning herself in a river. They arrange a duel in which Laertes uses a poisoned sword; he wounds Hamlet and in turn suffers a cut with his own sword, so he is also poisoned.

At the same time, Gertrude drinks a cup of poisoned wine intended for Hamlet. He forces Claudius to drink it as well. Before dying, Hamlet asks his friend Horatio to tell what happened and to recognize Fontimbrás, the Norwegian king, as successor to the Danish throne.

hamlet characters

Some scholars have said of this play that it is written by the philosopher Shakespeare, who defined here one of the most archetypal personalities of Western culture: man and his dilemma as the center of existence. The great dichotomy represented in this character is the underlying one within the human being, who struggles between thinking (Hamlet’s true passion) and executing.

The inspiration for the plot comes from an ancient Icelandic Saga that has disappeared, collected by the 12th century historian Saxo Grammaticus in books III and IV of his Gesta Danorum (Danish Chronicle), in which he tells the story of the Danish Prince Amled. After successive translations, it reached England at the beginning of the 17th century under the title Hamblet or Ur-Hamlet, attributed to Thomas Kyd but perhaps a first version by Shakespeare himself. The main events related in the play are already in its precedents. Shakespeare modifies the happy ending and gives it a profound tone.

laertes

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, or simply Hamlet, is a tragedy by the English playwright William Shakespeare.[1] Its author probably based Hamlet on two sources: the legend of Amleth and a lost Elizabethan play known today as Ur-Hamlet or original Hamlet (a fact that is deduced from other texts).

The play takes place in Denmark, and deals with the events following the murder of King Hamlet (Prince Hamlet’s father), at the hands of his brother Claudius. The king’s ghost asks his son to take revenge on his murderer.

The play vividly revolves around madness (both real and feigned), and the transformation of deep grief into unbridled rage. It also explores themes of betrayal, revenge, incest and moral corruption.

The sentinels try to convince Horatio, Hamlet’s best friend, that they have seen the ghost of King Hamlet, the prince’s father. After hearing Horatio, Prince Hamlet decides to go, at night, to the place of the apparitions to see the ghost himself.
