He began his career in 1989 with the album Los chulos son pa’ cuidarlos, under the stage name Alejandro Magno. In 1991 he released his second album -and the first officially as Alejandro Sanz- titled Viviendo deprisa.

For the back cover, Alejandro chooses another suit of lights under which he shows a T-shirt printed with a smiley -the acid-house banner-. This album, released under the Hispavox label, was not advertised and is currently difficult to find in stores. Alejandro Sanz himself never talks about his first album, nor does it appear on his official website. Shortly after, in 1990, he participated with Tino Casal in the second album by Juan Carlos Valenciaga, in the song Como un placer.

The first single of this album was the song No es lo mismo, whose videoclip was recorded in a location in Chapultepec in Mexico, under the direction of Jaume de Laiguana from Barcelona, responsible for the whole image of the new album. It was followed by singles such as: He sido tan feliz contigo, Regálame la silla donde te esperé and Try To Save Your Song. Although critics considered the album as a positive change in the singer’s career, the reception by fans was somewhat “cold”, as his followers were more accustomed to his romantic ballads.
