One of the three scriptwriters of La Tribu, Joaquín Oristrell, is a professor at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. There, Joaquín asked his students to record situations that would inspire them to tell stories.
One of these students came with a recording of a performance by “Las Mamis”, participants in the Got Talent contest, at his dance school. It was then that Oristrell saw the interest of this story, and began to devise the script together with Fernando Colomo and Yolanda García Serrano.[9] The script is based on a film that was filmed at the school’s dance school.

El reparto de la película -que se rodará durante siete semanas, tanto en Madrid como en Barcelona- lo completan Luis Bermejo, Julián López, Bárbara Santa Cruz, Artur Busquets y Manuel Huedo. Está producida por MOD Producciones y Atresmedia Cine, en colaboración con Movistar +. La tribu’ tells the story of Fidel, a fish out of water who sees how the superficial world in which he lives suddenly collides with the humility of the neighborhood where he ends up after suffering an accident. For Colomo, this fish out of water theme is not new in his filmography since, as Joaquín Oristrell, co-screenwriter of the film, points out, “Colomo always makes the film of the Martian. He lands in a world he doesn’t know and ends up knowing himself better”.
After the visit to Badalona, they set about writing, a process to which screenwriter Yolanda García Serrano is added, and in which the real mommies have inevitably left their mark. “Our mommies are very similar to the originals; in fact, two of them appear in the film. It was great to work with them,” says the director, who also talks about the woman behind “Las Mamis,” Maribel del Pino. Founder of the school Tribu Urbana Center in Badalona, she is also the choreographer of the film and, to top it off, she plays the role of Maribel in ‘The Tribe’.

It was the right day on March 8 to schedule the press screening of La tribu, a title that advocates the invisible struggle of women. The film, inspired by the true story of a dance group from the city of Badalona (Las mamis), won Best Film and Best Actress (Carmen Machi) at the Monte Carlo Comedy Film Festival last week.
It is cinema and entertainment pure and simple. The lightness with which it treats the drama of the story gives it more the character of a superficial comedy than an intelligent one. However, with a cast led by two titans like Carmen Machi (Ocho apellidos vascos) and Paco León (Kiki, el amor se hace) everything is made easier, and ninety minutes of entertainment are guaranteed.
In the cast it is worth mentioning the role of “Las mamis” as a whole, as well as that of the veteran Luis Bermejo. On the other hand, we find the work of a little known Artur Busquets (Ebro, de la cuna a la batalla) with a superficial but correct comic role. And the well-known Manuel Huedo, who shows that success in networks does not transform you into an actor.
